I went into this week with a lot of expectations for events and activities. While not everything worked out how I’d planned, it still turned out very well!
A Struggle From This Week
This week, I had a lot planned. I was going to finish a woodworking project, try to earn money, and bring Marlowe to my cousins’ to play with their cockatiel. Despite my excitement and planning, not everything happened the way I expected it to.
First of all, even though I’d decided I was going to work, I couldn’t think of any projects or things to do that would earn me money. I’m still trying to find another job, so there’s that, but I still need to get paid in the meantime. I found myself with no responses to applications, no ideas, and no energy.
Next, I had to delay my woodworking project by a day. I was a bit frustrated at first, but once I thought about it, I was glad I had some extra free time for that day and that the project would still be completed.
Finally, it was time for the bird playdate. My aunt picked up Marlowe and I and brought us to their house. We had dinner, then took the birds out of their cages to meet each other. Marlowe was polite and interested in her cousin Mabey, but Mabey wasn’t too comfortable with her. She watched Marlowe and hissed if she got too close. Needless to say, she wasn’t happy to share her space with another bird.
When each issue came up, I found myself overwhelmed. How was I going to earn money? How was I going to get the woodworking done? And lastly, how could I get Marlowe a friend?
A Win From This Week
All I had to do was sit back, wait, and be open to new possibilities. I ended up getting a message – not from an employer, but from a research study website I signed up for. I had been asked to participate in a focus group! That went amazing and I had a lot of fun. Only a few hours after I finished it, I got a message from another researcher – they wanted my opinion too! I ended up getting quite a lot just for talking to people on Zoom, and I’m glad I was able to participate. Sometimes you just have to let opportunities come to you.
Even though the project had been pushed back a day, I still had a great time finishing it. I hung out with my grandparents, as my grandpa was helping me with the project, and everything ended up spectacular! I got to spend time with my family and create something beautiful. It was an amazing experience, no matter what day it was!
Lastly, even though Mabey wasn’t too friendly at the moment, Marlowe still found a buddy. My cousins have a bunny named Tito, and while Marlowe was hanging out on the floor, he hopped over and checked her out. She stood still while he sniffed her, not minding the attention from the strange creature. They were immediately comfortable with each other’s presence, and she even groomed his face at one point. It was adorable! I’m so happy Marlowe was able to find a friend, even if it wasn’t who we’d expected. Sometimes, the best opportunities are the ones we don’t think about beforehand.
